This improvement to your amplifier does not change the original
circuit in any way ! It uses the original design (which was good). A FAB
implements a superior layout, and replaces components at key parts of
the circuit with state of the art components, so that your amp can "be
all that it can be" ! (Sorry Army !) Hum and noise is decreased to
near ZERO! You will be amazed at the
improvement in your amplifier. (And the increase in longevity)
If you do not send us your amplifier with
good tubes in it, we will be forced to put good tubes in it before we
can proceed, and charge you for them . Our prices will be quite
reasonable. We will put in VERY slightly used American (RCA Etc.)
small signal tubes and VERY lightly used matched GE6550As for the power
tubes. The charges for these tubes will be $100.0 for a 100 watt amp
(Grande Etc.) and $200.00 for a 200 watt amp (Fillmore). The charge for
Avalon tubes will depend on the tubes used. We can discuss this!
Most minor repairs will be automatically included in the price of a
FAB.
Replace the original AC cord with a three-prong unit that plugs into
the chassis like the cord on your computer. This is an option that may
save your life one day (or mine!) and I will not work on an amp without
it ! Plugged in to a proper, grounded outlet it will also help minimize
noise.
Replace all the power supply filter caps with premium units. (Right
now we are using Elna Cerefines from Japan). All original West Amps need
this anyway. This will help assure you of full power and low noise. It
will also extend the life of your amp another 10-20 years.
Replace all potentiometers with premium 2-watt Conductive Plastic
Mill Spec pots. These are the best pots money can buy. They are VERY
quiet and will last a LONG time. Any original West Amp I have ever seen
needs new pots anyway.
Implement a new grounding scheme optimized for your amp layout. This
includes installing new isolated ground jacks for both guitar inputs and
speaker outputs. This will insure you the lowest hum possible.
Replace all critical positions with 1 watt 1% 750 volt rated mill
spec metal film Resistors. This will insure the lowest noise possible,
and greatly add to the reliability and life of your amp.
Replace all tone circuit and coupling capacitors in the preamp
section of your amp with premium units. This will insure that your amp
sounds the way it was intended to.
We will also check for any age weary solder joints and obvious
problems in your amp that would keep it from maximum performance.
An optional cost installation of a presence control (like on a
Marshall) which was not in the original design but should have been.
New pricing with expanded
specifications is on the way!
